Consisting entirely of footage of snooker players, waiting for their chance to get back in the match, BREAK draws on over 40 years of televised snooker to create a durational study of remorse, resolve, frustration and, sometimes, something even close to transcendence.
How do you react, when you can’t take action?
BREAK invites you to take a seat, set aside your cue, and stare into the shadows with us.
David McDonagh and Paolo Cabrelli are writers, artists, and filmmakers.
Their work has screened in competition and Official Selection at film festivals including Village International Cinema Festival in Lisbon, Bronx International Film Festival, and Festival de Cine Internacional de Barcelona. Their feature script NOWSTALGIA was longlisted for the inaugural Wellcome Trust Screenwriting Prize. Their short film ONE LAST DRINK BEFORE MORNING won Best Screenplay awards at Rhode Island International Film Festival and Festival du Cinema de Bruxelles, Best Narrative Short at Pause & Play International Film Festival, and Viewers’ Voice Winner at Cinequest Film Festival in San Jose.
Forthcoming projects include two feature scripts in development, and a film installation piece exploring the dynamics of winning and losing.
